Reasons to Be Cheerful

Role: Lighting Director

On October 8th, 2024, David Byrne emceed Amazing Humans Doing Amazing Things, a one-night-only raucous and inspiring variety show at Town Hall. Proceeds from Amazing Humans supported Reasons to Be Cheerful, David’s nonprofit online magazine that is a tonic for tumultuous times. The impressive bill of acts included David Byrne, Fred Armisen, Thao, Tamino, Brass Queens, Fogo Azul, Nina Conti, Ingrid Hansen, and Ellie Steingraeber.

Our team had just under 10 hours to design and rehearse 12 wide-ranging variety acts. We balanced giving each artist attention and detail in their act’s design with working through an ambitious bill in a limited amount of time. I worked closely with the director, Jenny Koons, and stage manager, Jenny Kennedy, to prepare a detailed run of show and design plan. This allowed us to hit the ground running and accomplish everything and more during our one day load in/tech/performance. We delivered an exciting, beautiful experience for our audience and helped support an important cause.
